Elizabeth Reed, MSW
Elizabeth Reed, MSW, is a 200-hour certified yoga teacher trained in contemporary American Hatha style yoga. Her style intends to help you avoid injury, feel better physically, with a focus on relaxation and/or balanced, safe strengthening, and mindfulness presence.
Yoga is powerful for improving stress-management, enhancing quality-of-life, strengthening the body and mind, relaxation, and wellness. As a teacher, my recently launched public yoga YouTube channel has enjoyed nearly 75,000 views so far, particularly due to content about improving lower back pain (see here re. a 3 minute lower back exercise: https://youtu.be/dSQIJHC0yQA, and here re. a sample 22 minute beginner class: https://youtu.be/3uENM58AFpQ). I hear I am a sweet teacher who patiently explains things. Let’s see if my yoga instruction can help you also!
From beginner to advanced levels, private in-person lessons are available in Richmond, Texas, in the Greater Houston area, at $25 per hour per person. Please plan to come to my designated area for classes, or virtual classes can be arranged on a case by case basis, but the quality of your instruction will likely be better face-to-face. Nature is my “studio,” and I offer classes at the park or beside the pool—this adds a wonderful mindfulness and relaxation component. My students tell me they feel so relaxed after class! And, we enjoy the bird watching, the wildflowers, the cloudscapes, and the gentle sunlight performances, in a rather private and beautiful green space I have located for us with convenient parking nearby. Pick your weather preference when scheduling, cool mornings, or “Bikram style” midday sessions (bring water and a hat please!). It’s recommended to get a picnic blanket or tarp to put under your yoga mat, and to have a couple of yoga bricks. I have extra tarps while you are getting started.
I also hold a master’s degree in social work (MSW) from New York University and a B.A. in English literature and Latin American Studies. My graduate studies means that I am academically inclined in backing my teaching with research about yoga. It also means that I have complementary training in mindfulness, being trauma-informed, and in empathy and attunement; although, for clarity, I am not trained in yoga as a mental health therapy intervention. While I consider my yoga teaching practice to be informed by my MSW studies and training, technically fyi my yoga teaching is very separate from licensed social work practice.
